Who: Veterans (10 veterans)
When: 12 - 3PM Feb. 20 2011
What: Come out to a writingworkshop with Warrior Writers Project
The Warrior Writers Project brings together recent veterans and current service members to be in creative community and utilize art-making processes. A profound sense of hope comes from the ability to rebuild and transform. Our workshops and events utilize (but are not limited to) writing, drawing, photography, papermaking and music. We also compile artwork into books, performances and exhibits so civilians can begin to better understand veterans’ experiences.
In the Workshop we will use a verity of writing exercises and collage/transfer techniques to explore memories of the military and the connections between personal and collective experiences as veterans. Additionally each participant will create their own hand made journal.
Please RSVP by contacting Dryhootch - abbey@dryhootch.org
Operation Exposure Art Opening with Warrior Writers Poetry and Music by Jason Moon
A night of art, poetry, and music about the experiences of returning veterans.
A project of Just Seeds and Iraq Veterans Against the War that uses Graphic installations to expose the traumas of war in everyday America.
Contributers to the Warrior Writers project will be reading selections from their recent writings that explore and expose what it means to be a veteran in todays society.
Jason Moon will play songs from his new album “Trying to Find My Way Home”. Over 14 tracks this CD chronicles a soldier's journey from pre-deployment through the homecoming, and on to a 5 year struggle with PTSD. It even ends with an image of hope.
