Call-in January 2nd to urge Illinois Senator Kirk to stop undermining negotiations With Iran

Chicago IVAW Picketing Kirk's office on New Year's Eve

The Chicago chapter of Iraq Veterans Against the War is asking Illinois voters to participate in a Call-In TODAY January 2nd to urge Illinois Senator Mark Kirk to pull back from introducing a bill that would undermine negotiations with Iran.

Following up on their picket on New Year's Eve, local Chicago veterans are dialing up the pressure on the Senator (more information on the picket in this article).

The U.S. and its diplomatic partners are currently engaged in ongoing negotiations regarding Iran's nuclear program, within the framework of a tentative agreement to slowly lift sanctions. But on December 19th, Illinois Senator Mark Kirk -- with the strong support of the American Israel Public Affairs Committee (AIPAC) -- announced a punitive bill, Senate Bill S.1881 that could threaten the recent diplomatic breakthrough and play into the hands of Iran’s hardliners. Kirk is expected to introduce the bill in the Senate on January 6.

Call Kirk’s Chicago or Washington office to urge him to forgo introduction of the bill and instead support the diplomacy of the Obama administration and its allies, as part of a commitment to respect for the international community, the diplomatic process and the American public -- who overwhelmingly want peace with Iran. Call one of the numbers listed below and ask to speak to the aide who deals with foreign policy. You may get a live person on the phone or a voice mail. A sample rap would be “I am an Illinois voter and I am calling because I oppose S.1881, the bill Senator Kirk is sponsoring that will  undermine negotiations with Iran. “

Call-in to Senator Mark Kirk!  Chicago Office: 312.886.3506 Springfield Office: 217.492.5089 Washington Office: 202.224.2854
