Kyle Quigley

Joined the Army a year after high school in October of 04. I was a 19Delta Cavalry Scout in the 101st Airborne Division. I had been in the army for 11 months before being shipped off to Iraq in September of 05. I deployed with the 3/187th infantry, 3rd brigade Rakkasans under Col. Steele. Spent the first few months in Baghdad. The majority of my deployment was in Samarra frequently going north up to Tikrit. We left Iraq in September of 2006 to go back to Fort Campbell. I got out of the army for good in 2007. By 2008 I was involved with Iraq Veterans Against The War. Since I was in Iraq I knew that I was against the war and I no longer wanted to be part of the military. Therefore I was just waiting my time until I could get as far away from it as possible. I had no idea IVAW even existed at that time. Upon getting out I went to the VFW and the American Legion but I eventually stopped going. I couldn't stand being in those places. I wasn't proud of my service or what I had participated in. I couldn't talk to people who had such a different view and opinion about the situation. IVAW has helped me more than the VFW, the American Legion or the VA ever could. I recently started a Harrisburg chapter of IVAW along with two fellow Iraq Veterans and longtime friends. I would like to help out any Iraq and Afghanistan Veterans the same way IVAW has helped me.
