As you may have heard in recent communications, our Executive Director, Jose Vasquez, has resigned his position with IVAW. Of course, the Board thanks Jose for his dedication and years of service to IVAW, and has a seat waiting for him on the Board when he is ready and able to take that role.

Educational requirements and Compensation
A Bachelor’s level degree is preferred but not required; special consideration will be given to degrees in nonprofit management.
The Executive Director is the height of responsibility in IVAW; the position is charged with carrying out the vision of the organization and handling all day-to-day business.
Compensation is between forty-five and sixty-five thousand dollars annual salary depending on experience and staff structure, plus a benefits package.
Challenges Ahead
The challenges the organization will face during our strategic revision process requires candidates to be able to adapt quickly to the responsibility and tempo of our dynamic and growing organization. We recently passed a new Values, Vision and Mission document, but that is only the start of a 10-step strategic process in which we are currently engaged. This means that our new ED will have to be able to participate in this process while showing a lot of flexibility in their day-to-day work. This may include restructuring our staff and programs.
As the position often calls for more than 50 hours weeks of rewarding, yet stressful work, we expect that members who apply will be deeply committed to the mission and goals of IVAW. Therefore not only knowing, but practicing, the key strategies to prevent burn out will be a critical skill set for this position.
Eligibility
All members of IVAW are eligible to apply for the position of Executive Director and will receive preferential hiring. Additionally, other veterans, women, LGBTQI peoples, people differently abled and various persons of color are encouraged to apply. The new ED may or may not be a member, as we are looking for the candidate with the best skills; a member will always be preferred.
How to Apply
Interested candidates should submit a cover letter, resume, and three references to the Hiring Committee at board@ivaw.org, with the subject line: Executive Director Position.
Please include a writing sample, no more than three pages in length, addressing the topic of opportunities and challenges IVAW faces in a time when many may feel like we are becoming irrelevant. Please include information from our Values, Vision, and Mission document.
The hiring deadline is 12 midnight EST on February 7th, 2013.
Phone and in-person interviews will be conducted over the following week.
