Veterans Day Parade in San Francisco

The 91st Veterans Day Parade will march down San Francisco's Market Street starting at 11 a.m. today, marking a special commemoration of the 60th anniversary of the start of the Korean War.

Wallace Levin, past president of the city's Veterans' Affairs Commission, said about 100 veterans from the Korean War would be recognized at the annual event. The parade will include the usual procession of marching bands, drum corps and drill teams.

Levin said all veterans are invited to join the march, which he described as a nonpolitical event.

The annual procession once drew crowds along Market Street that rivaled the size of Wednesday's Giants victory parade, Levin said.

"It'd be nice if 20,000 showed up for us," said Levin, 80, who served in the Korean War. "The Giants' heroes had 10 and 20 people deep on the sidewalks. We'll be lucky to have one deep."
