The Iraq War has officially ended, but our work continues in 2012!

The war may be over, but tens of thousands of troops returning from Iraq now face a different kind of fight - the struggle for proper medical care, including comprehensive mental health treatment for trauma they've suffered during their military service.  Last year we launched the Operation Recovery campaign at Fort Hood, Texas, to defend veterans' and service members' rights to heal and end the deployment of traumatized troops.  Now we’re holding a house party to raise funds to help expand our campaign to Joint Base Lewis-McChord in 2012, and you’re invited.

Help us stop the deployment of traumatized troops and bring an end to the war in Afghanistan.

Thousands of troops who've come home from Iraq are now being sent to Afghanistan – many of them severely traumatized by their experiences.  The generals are desperate for bodies to maintain our forces in Afghanistan, and will do whatever it takes, including sending injured troops back into battle.  About 3,000 soldiers with the 3rd Brigade, 2nd Infantry Division recently shipped out to Afghanistan from Joint Base Lewis-McChord after serving two tours in Iraq, and many are suffering from un-treated trauma.  In fact, the problems are so bad Joint Base Lewis-McChord has developed a reputation as a ‘base on the brink’ and the ‘most troubled base in the military’ due to record-high suicides, and numerous other mental health issues.  We’re working hard to bring Operation Recovery to Joint Base Lewis-McChord, and we need your help!

Join us for our Operation Recovery House Party

Join us at 6pm, January 21, 2012 to learn more about our plans for the coming year from local IVAW members, including members currently on active-duty and stationed at Joint Base Lewis-McChord.  Light refreshments will be provided.  Please RSVP here.

Can’t attend but still want to support our work?  Make an online donation today (please include “IVAW Seattle” in the special project field) or mail your check made out to “IVAW Seattle” to: IVAW C/O Alex Bacon, 1814 17th Ave S, Seattle WA 98144
