Golden Gate Avenue & Larkin Street (The old Fed Bldg)
  • On March 19th, 10 years to the day when the US invaded Iraq, join U.S. veterans, Iraqi human rights organizations and their allies for the launch of the Right to Heal initiative on the west coast. We are hoping that this event will touch everyone who sees it in a very personal and profound way. The war is not over for Iraqis, U.S. veterans and others. Those of in war-impacted communities here at home continue to live with Post-Traumatic Stress (PTSD), Traumatic Brain Injury (TBI) and Military Sexual Traum...a (MST), with the environmental impacts of burn pits, depleted uranium and other chemicals, birth defects, high cancer rates, and suicides, In Iraq, a government represses a growing civil society movement while selling off the country’s natural resources to foreign companies. On March 19 a new joint project which takes real steps toward health care, accountability and reparations will be launched. Come join the voices of The Organization of Women's Freedom in Iraq, Iraq Veterans Against the War, the Center for Constitutional Rights, MADRE, War Resisters League Occupy and others starting at 8:30 a.m. at the old Federal Building in San Francisco. There will be testimony also provided by the Federation of Workers’ Councils and Unions in Iraq. Be a part of the acknowledgement of the human cost of war while we start the dialog of “The Right to heal” on the west coast. What: Creation of a Chalk Mural while simultaneously chalking the names of those killed as a result of this war, Iraqi people and American service members. We believe and wish to emphasize that everyone living in Iraq is also a veteran. A press conference on The Right to Heal Initiative and Reading of Testimonials on the Human Impact of the war will start at noon. Where: The old Federal Building in San Francisco at Golden Gate Avenue & Larkin Street When: Tuesday March 19, starting at 8:30 a.m. We welcome anyone who would like to participate at any time during this event.
