Jonathan Hausrath

I have been antiwar ever since realizing our country had basically been taken over by oil companies during the Bush administration. I joined the army in 2005 as a medic to bear witness to the tragedy that was the war in Iraq. I had seen enough even before deploying--I was honorably discharged after 13 months of service. Looking back I wish I would've known about conscientious objector status, since I resorted to misconduct to get out. I had thought that joining as a medic would somehow give me a more humane stance to war, but I was wrong. I continue to advocate for conscientious objection to be more widely known, more widely implemented (I would even like it in our Constitution one day), and I would like the army to let soldiers with C.O. status to serve along side other soldiers.
