Jonathan Carp

Despite opposing the Iraq War, I thought after we started that we had to stay and finish. I joined the Army to be a part of what I thought was an essentially humanitarian endeavor. In Iraq as a combat medic with 3rd Battalion, 82nd Field Artillery, 1st Cavalry Division, I saw rampant profiteering, anti-Arab racism, and a command both unable and unwilling to do anything much to ameliorate the condition of the Iraqi people. I also saw that the Iraqis themselves wanted nothing to do with us. I joined Iraq Veterans against the War because I wanted to use the credibility that my status as a combat veteran gives me (rightly or wrongly) to speak out against this war and against American imperial adventures in general.
