Potluck and discussion at Windows and Mirrors with members of the Iraqi community, US Veterans and support people hosted by the American Friends Service Committee PA Program

Sunday February 12th from 4-6:00pm

The dinner will be held at the Gallery at 937 Liberty Ave in downtown Pittsburgh where the Windows and Mirrors exhibitis being shown, see below.

During the evening we will get to enjoy each other’s food and our stories both of Iraq and living in America.

(There is limited ability to heat food so cold dishes are preferable.)

Please let Scilla Wahrhaftig know if you are coming swahrhaftig@afsc.org or (412) 371 3607 (This event is limited to the communities described above - Iraqis, Veterans, and support persons/families.)

Windows and Mirrors is a stunning exhibit of 45 murals from artists across the U.S., shown alongside drawings collected from Afghan high school students about their daily lives. This art invites us to view the war through the eyes of the Afghan people as they
move from war to hope. Each artwork is a window into the realities of war in Afghanistan—the horror and despair, and the hope and resilience of the Afghan people. The art is also a mirror reflecting the viewer’s feelings and sense of responsibility.

The Pittsburgh exhibit will also feature artworks from the War Dialogues Project, in which refugees and military veterans of the same wars collaborate through art and storytelling to promote healing and understanding. The art on display at Windows and Mirrors represents a conversation between two Pittsburgh artists: a US Iraq veteran, Joyce Wagner and a 17-year old Iraqi refugee Mina Al Doori.
