David Currey

My Name is David Currey. This is my stance in regards to the Marine Corps and the violence in the Middle East. I often get thanked for my service to my country. Please stop. I was part of an organization that systematically creates racists and nationalist. We were told of how the “Hajis” threatened our way of life. We were told that America is the greatest nation on Earth. We were told to not question the orders of our mission. This is evil. The Iraq people are not the bad guys. We were invading. America is not the greatest nation on Earth. No country is. Refusing orders and questioning our motives are vital to prevent the destruction of our humanity. When I get thanked for my service, I think of the people that passed through Al Asad in body bags. All of it could have been prevented. But, I helped out. I aided in the destruction of our people’s lives. The war in Iraq and my very presence in the Marines ate at my conscience. It was all unnecessary, the racism, the nationalism, the unquestionable obedience to orders. I joined to helped the world, not to destroy it. I made a mistake when I joined. I have had to live with that mistake. The global war on terrorism is bogus. Terrorism exists. I get it. I doesn’t give us that right to invade a country. People will disagree with our lifestyle and some people will take action against us. Well, so what? 2996 people died on 9/11. 2740 death happens every month because of vehicle accidents. A 9/11 happens every month. Yet we don’t do around killing dangerous drivers. But we go to another country and kill the terrorist that attacked us. There is no consistency. Our answer should be to go to other countries and provide them with schools and education, so that terrorists aren’t recruited in those countries. Education eliminates the environment in which terrorist organization can recruit. Killing one another is not the answer. If you want a hero to thank, thank a teacher. They do more for reducing the amount of terrorism in the world than the marines ever will. They give people the ability to make the world a better place. Marines just make it worse. The idea of an invasion force should be abolished. That is what the Marines’ main mission is. Tip of the spear, amphibious invaders. Their main goal is to kill. The Army, Navy, and Airforce do much more humanitarian work than the Marines. The invaders have no place in the military anymore. We live in a world of democracy. Democracy and diplomacy insure much more peace that any invasion force could ever dream. The idea that we must cause war to prevent it is disgusting. So please, stop thanking me. I don’t deserve it. You can thank me when I become a teacher.
