THE TRUTH OF THE WAR: The Real War Experience

published by IVAW Admin on 05/13/14 8:40pm

The first thing we at IVAW want to do is to thank you for having got this far. We believe you also deserve an explanation.

The Truth of the War logo

It's true, this video game was no ordinary video game. It was a way of calling your attention and of requesting your help for our cause. If this has upset you in any way, we apologise.

We hope you understand. And we want you not to worry. You must know that you only paid for this game if you clicked on the button to confirm the $0.99 donation.

Why did we do this?

In our organisation we think that over the last few years, especially since the appalling events of 9/11, TV, Hollywood and the entire entertainment industry in general has trivialised violence and war. We share our lives with war, with the data, the figures, but we are seldom aware of what they really mean in human terms.

With regard to video games, the problem is even more alarming, since a high percentage of players are of school age, teenagers and youngsters who might join the armed forces. This trivialisation of any conflict, the showbiz factor, is much more serious. Since 2001, the number of video games set in war scenarios has tripled. The scenarios where they are set and their plots are "recognisable" to users and their main claim and what these users find most attractive, according to the surveys, is THE REALISM.

But are they actually so realistic? We don't think so, which is why we developed this game: THE TRUTH OF WAR. THE FIRST GAME WHERE YOU ONLY GET ONE LIFE. Because in real war you only get one life. Because war is not a game.
