Let's Talk about Local Politics

published by Sara Beining on 11/05/12 11:07am

I just watched this video about Mitt Romney. It's from a jezebel blog entry titled "Mitt Romney is a Flip-Flopping Liar Liar Pants on Fire, in Under Four Minutes". Granted, the first three minutes are not much to speak about, except they sort of illustrate his weirdness as a human being. The last 30 seconds, however, are pretty telling. I'm not about to engage in any electioneering right now, I'm just so sick and tired, and concerned, of those on top of us, kind of literally, ruling with this trickle down bullshit, being so removed from the rest of us, that our lives and their lives make no intersection whatsoever. Even the Obama's, who come across as way more relatable than the Romneys, even the Obamas, are still not "normal people." I find it hard to understand people who come out at the top in politics.

However, I think we can touch those closest to us. Bear with me. Local politics. Who is running in your area? Are you connected with them? Do you know who is on city/county council? Who your district rep is to state legislature? And if not, why not?  I'm only started to get more involved locally - I have been to a few city council meetings, and I paid attention to who was running locally. Seriously, how can we get closer to those closest to us, politically? Change doesn't come from the top, right?

Any thoughts?
