The legacy of 11 years of war in Afghanistan
Part 1 of 3 clips
To mark the 11th anniversary of our invasion of Afghanistan this weekend, Democracy Now! featured this interview about the mental crisis facing veterans and active duty service members. Included in the conversation is IVAW member and Afghanistan veteran, Graham Clumpner, lead organizer of our strategy retreat of Afghanistan veterans taking place in Denver this weekend. He joins a veteran advocate and investigative journalist in a conversation about the military and Veterans Administration being ill-equipped to deal with the suicide epidemic as well as the intentional misdiagnosis of soldiers to avoid paying out their disability benefits.
This weekend's strategy retreat brings together Afghanistan veterans from around the country who are committed to using their military experiences to raise awareness about the catastrophic Afghanistan War and the epidemic of military suicides. They will be strategizing about the future of our veterans movement and the role of Afghanistan veterans within it. They will be joined by members of Afghans For Peace, a global movement of Afghans calling for immediate withdrawal of NATO forces from their country,
