Colorado Chapter Reunites

A handful of Colorado based IVAW members gathered recently and had started to organize again. In the past IVAW had the 1st active chapter in the organization in Colorado Springs, and soon Denver and Ft Collins emerged. We even had enough active duty members attending meetings that a Ft Carson chapter almost got going. However with the scattered membership and less city focused efforts we decided to condense the chapters into one State chapter.

Colorado has had a strong IVAW tradition. It was home of the 1st chapter in the nation, we have had many members take on major leadership roles, we coordinated one of the Operation First Casualty street theater actions and organized the major RAGE Against the Machine concert and week long DNC events including the pivitol march on the Pepsi Center to win audience with Senator Barack Obama campaign staff.

Kelly D, Dan C and G Repp are down on paper as the officers of the chapter. There are no defined positions giving a lateral accountability structure. Soon we will look for more members to gather with us and vote on who our officers are and if we want any sort of leadership structure.

Current plan is to have a social meeting and a planning meeting once a month. We can rotate the locations to help participation from members across the state. Currently we are looking at supporting Operation Recovery, setting up the a war resession economy campaign (WREC) to organize with community leaders to build the anti-war movement in Colorado, and continue to build membership and leaders here in the state.
