Bacon and eggs My favorite breakfast The maroon, meaty pieces mixed with the creamy yellow eggs The bench is hard beneath my ass The air is bland and HVAC'd in  Just off my shift, 6 pm to 6 am After the explosions After the gunshots and tracer fire I sit and eat my breakfast After another night of fear Another sunrise of thankfulness I eat my breakfast I know tonight I will go back To the night shift I know I may not go back to my cot But for now I enjoy my bacon and eggs
