Afghanistan Veterans form the Afghanistan Veterans Against the War Committee

Brock McIntosh (Afghanistan Veteran), Cassandra Cantu (Afghanistan Veteran), Jacob George (Afghanistan Veteran), Nathan Toth (OEF Veteran), Tyler Zabel (Afghanistan War Resister), Alejandro Villatoro (Iraq Veteran and deployed to Afghanistan, October 1, 2010) came together and proposed an AVAW Committee to the board in order to assure that the struggle of Afghanistan Veterans to end the continued occupation of Afghanistan is acknowledged by the GI & Veterans Movement, the larger Antiwar Movement, and the general public. The board approved the committee the first week of October.

Take action with AVAW

AVAW members are taking action nationally and in their local areas.

Brock McIntosh, one of the founders of the AVAW Committee, was at the Operation Recovery Campaign Announcement where he testified to the failed strategy of the Afghanistan Occupation and its relationship to abuse of GI and Veterans' Right to Heal. Watch Brock on Democracy Now!

Sign the Pledge to support Brock and the campaign to stop the deployment of traumatized troops today!

Alex Villatoro was flown out October 1st to Afghanistan for a deployment with the 656th Transportation. He has been fighting with his command for the past several months to help improve the equipment and training of his unit. By speaking out he won the improvements for his unit. You can read more about his unit in this Common Dream Article. Be safe Alex!

Jacob George out of Fayetteville, Arkansas has spearheaded A Ride Till the End a project to ride his bike till the end of the occupation of Afghanistan and Iraq. This project has taken him through many small towns in the south where he is collaborating with individuals, groups, and organizations interested in stopping the wars. Check out the project here: www.operationawareness.org

Nathan Toth out of Madison, Wisconsin has been working with IVAW Madison and local allies to help build an alternative and supplement to the VA called Wisconsin for Veterans. Check out the project here: www.wi4vets.org
