I guess my stint in the antiwar movement began before the official invasion was declared in 2003. As a member of the NJ Army National Guard from 1997-2004, I counted myself among the soldiers who questioned the goals, values and actions of the US military even during times of "peace." Maybe I'm one of the few who actually got to utilize my GI bill for college, and I'm currently in grad school. But joining IVAW in 2006 gave me another entry point into the current antiwar struggle. Now we need to develop a strong voice in the northern NJ region, as I'm a resident of Newark, NJ. Until we can link the fight against imperialist war overseas to the fight against racism and sexism in the US, we are missing the point. |
