Shaun Crump

I joined the Army in January of 2002. I went to basic training at Ft. Benning, Ga. and served over 6 years as an infantryman. During those 6 years I deployed twice to Iraq, the second time under stop-loss. After my first deployment I began to question the reasons we were in Iraq and the reason we (the US) would allow the destruction and killing we saw daily as soldiers. After leaving the Army in 2008 I saw first hand what I read in the newspapers and saw on the local news stations. Veterans are being treated like second class citizens. After homelessness and joblessness I decided to do something about my situation and work to make sure it didnt happen to anyone else. I joined Occupy Houston. When I heard about what happened to Marine Iraq Veteran Scott Olsen I heard about Vets For Peace and the Iraq Veterans Against The War. I joined IVAW because I know that organizing and working together towards a common goal brings change. I know that things can change.
