Demilitarized Super Bowl Party at the IVAW house in DC
by Geoff | Wed, 01/27/2010 - 1:05am
Sunday, February 07, 2010 from 5:00pm to 9:59pm IVAW's DC Chapter is hosting a demilitarized Super Bowl party, February 7, 2010 starting at 5 pm (game starts at 6). Super Bowl Sunday has been taken from the heights of the football world to the heights of militarizing our society. We seldom even notice the many shots of "our troops" fighting in occupations that are both illegal and immoral. It has become common place to barley notice the game among million dollar commercials and over exposure of the military. This goes to the heart of a culture who has equated dissent with a lack of patriotism, a culture where one cannot love sports unless one choses to be inundated by war. IVAW has chosen to stand up against this militarization, against commonly held beliefs and enjoy the game without the militarism. Just confirmed special guest sports writer David Zirin will join IVAW for the big game. Check out his column at http://www.edgeofsports.com/ Please join IVAW DC at the IVAW House (707 Ingraham ST NW) for food fun and resistance. Please bring an item to pass and/or a donation to the Chapter. Location: The views expressed here are the views of individual members, not Iraq Veterans Against the War as a whole.
