I enlisted in the USCG after college in 1999 wanting to learn how to drive boats while serving our country by performing off-shore search & rescue and otherwise guarding our coasts as needed. During my four years of active duty service, I found myself in both Panama and Iraq. It was during our deployment to Iraq that I joined Veterans for Peace. I am now the secretary of the Chicago Chapter of IVAW. I presently live in the City of Chicago, and work as a public school teacher Matthew B.
