Lyle Rubin
I was born and raised in Connecticut, attended college in Atlanta (Emory U.), enlisted in the Marine Corps for a year and a half and commissioned as an officer for another three and a half years. After getting out (just a few months after returning to a yearlong deployment in Afghanistan), I gradually gravitated to left-wing causes. Occupy was my first real left-wing experience. In the fall of 2012 I started up a PhD program in history at the University of Rochester and I’m currently writing my dissertation in Rhode Island.
I joined IVAW because, for good or ill, veterans in America hold a privileged position in our society, and we need more privileged voices standing up for social justice at home and abroad. We need veterans standing against militarism in particular.
