I spent nearly two years in Al Asad, Iraq. I am against what we did. I specifically watched the decline of a young Iraqi translator over the course of my service there. Once full of energy and possibility at the improvement that might come to his country, he left fearing is life but no longer able to continue the mission. His father was murdered, his life was threatened, he survived an IED on a convoy, and he lost all hope. We were not helping on a grand scale and we did not help him to safety for all that he did for us.
