Register now for the 2009 IVAW National Convention! This year’s convention will be held jointly with Veterans for Peace, and is the most important event for us as a membership organization. This is a great opportunity to meet other IVAW members from around the country, reflect on the past year's activities, discuss lessons learned, brainstorm innovative ideas for the upcoming year, and develop a common orientation towards the goals and strategy of IVAW.

Important forms/links:

Registration: Online registration is officially open! Click here and fill out the online registration form. If for any reason you have problems or questions, please contact the national office. Registration is $70 if you want to eat at the Saturday banquet, $25 without the banquet, and free for low-income members. Please pay as you are able so we can send as many low-income members as possible to the convention.

Travel: To apply for a travel scholarship, download and complete this form and email it to scholarships@ivaw.org. All applications are due by June 30th. Members and chapters are highly encouraged to do their own fundraising to help us grow the scholarship pot so we can send as many members as possible to this year’s convention. Download “sponsor a vet” form and contact the fundraising and scholarships team for help! For those driving to the convention that want to park at the University, you’ll need to purchase a $6/day parking pass for each weekday you’ll be at the convention. Purchasing your own travel? We’ll have more details about the best airport and other transportation options up soon.

Workshops: The workshop team is currently soliciting workshop proposals. All proposals are due by June 30th. Click here to download a convention proposal form, and make sure to review the workshop submission tips form! Forms can be returned to workshops@ivaw.org.

Housing: IVAW will block out enough campsites for everyone on Wednesday afternoon at Greenbelt National Park , which is only two miles away from the convention site. Members will not have to pay to stay at these campsites but will need to bring tents, sleeping bags and tarps. We''ll have a limited number of tents and sleeping bags for members who forget or aren't able to pack them along. We’ll also have shuttles running back and forth between the campsite and the convention location. Additionally, we'll be renting dorm rooms for low-income members who can’t camp because of a disability however we must make these reservations by July 1st, so let us know ASAP. Members are welcome to find their own accommodations, including paying for a dorm room (about $55 a night), staying with friends/family, or renting a hotel room. The DC Chapter house is also an option, though members will have to take public transportation to and from the convention site which DC Chapter members can help you with.

Food: The logistics team is working to recruit area peace and justice organizations near DC to provide breakfast, lunch and dinners starting Wednesday night through Sunday afternoon. Due to restrictions at the convention site, breakfast and dinners will be held at Greenbelt National Park, and lunches will be brown bags provided each morning. There’s also food available for pay at the conference site. All food is included in the registration cost.

Annual Meeting and Board Elections: Nominations for the IVAW Board of Directors closed on June 22nd. 26 members were nominated for the 6 open positions on the Board of Directors. All nominees were emailed a questionnaire to provide members more information about themselves, the skills and talents they'd bring to the board, and their vision for IVAW. The deadline for returning these questionnaires is July 9th, and the answers will be made available to the membership the week of July 13th. Board elections will take place at the Annual Meeting on Saturday, August 8th as part of our National Convention. For members who are unable to attend the Annual Meeting, online voting will be open from July 24th until August 7th. Login to the member website for more information.
