Raise Veterans' Voices With a Year-End Gift

published by IVAW Admin on 12/27/12 1:40am

With your help, Iraq and Afghanistan veterans have worked to heal ourselves and expose the human cost of war as we work to transform our society.

Your year-end donation will ensure our continued progress as we fight for our Right to Heal, to end the military occupation of Afghanistan, and to build solidarity with Iraqi and Afghan communities in 2013.

Please make a year-end gift today.

Our main accomplishments in 2012:

  • We mobilized close to 50 members at the NATO Summit to throw away their medals in protest of the continued war in Afghanistan.
  • We did a listening project with more than 300 active duty soldiers for our Operation Recovery Campaign at Fort Hood, Texas to learn about the military's barriers to their healing from Post Traumatic Stress, Military Sexual Trauma, and Traumatic Brain Injury.
  • We expanded Operation Recovery to Joint Base Lewis-McChord in Washington, which is under investigation for reversing PTSD claims.
  • We won major improvements at the Chicago VA medical center, including better care for women veterans and an increase in nursing staff.
  • We took our Right to Heal Tour to more than 15 cities to share our work and the conditions for active duty service members and the difficulties of getting health care.
  • We are working with civil rights, human rights, and Iraqi civiil society groups to establish a legal case on our government's violation of human rights of Iraqi civilians and US veterans.
  • Mobilized thousands of supporters like you to write letters-to-the-editor and call on their members of Congress to cut Afghanistan war funding.

Even with the Iraq war officially over, we only really have begun our fight. The human costs of these conflicts will live on with us, the Iraqis, and Afghans for generations. Veterans' voices are critical in righting the wrongs of these wars.

Make a generous end-of-year-gift today to support our continuing fight to expose the human cost of warfare to the American public.

How can we win?

If IVAW won everything that was in its three points of unity of its founding - end the wars, heal the troops, and reparations for those harmed - it would still fail.   Why?    Because it wouldn't address the underlying...

On Cuba: a reflection of my trip to this Cold War era hot button

My trip to Cuba started in a local bar in Miami with two longtime friends from my military days, who were accompanied by their wives.  The next morning I was to fly to Havana on a delegation mission with Code Pink,...

Remembering April - A Poem

Anniversaries can be a difficult time for some. April kicks of months of painful memories and each year I feel like I relive my deployment in 2003.      Sitting at a table in a restaurant, I get a call “Get your...

Fear, Guilt and Love: Reflections on the World Social Forum from a US Veteran

I’ve tried, pretty successfully, to live a life without too much fear. Growing up I didn’t follow the rules of stranger danger. I talked to everyone I met, picked up hitchhikers, went out to unfamiliar places alone, and I’...
